New Section of the Ezine

As I mentioned on the homepage, the big new addition to the ezine this month is the section that lists Magazine Markets for Young Writers. If you're a young author or illustrator, I hope the resource will be helpful to you. If any of you know of other publications that fit into this category, please let me know.

Additions to the List

• According to their website, SCAPEZINE is "a fantasy, science fiction and horror e-zine with a young adult (YA) focus. We seek the best new short YA speculative stories, poetry and art. We also publish news and reviews on books, movies and trends in the speculative YA world."

Check here for submission guidelines. This is a paying market. Payments are made at the time of publication.

13 Magazine is a new online magazine for high school and college students. This is what they say on their "About" website page: "Remember being 13, or 18, or 25, and reading that one particular story or poem that made it seem okay to wake up and do it all over again? In 140 characters, that’s what we’re about."

Here are their submission guidelines. This is a non-paying market.

Closed to Some or All Submissions

Alphabet Soup is currently closed to submissions from adults. They will post a notice on their site when they're accepting again.

As of October they have a new mailing address:

Editor
Alphabet Soup Magazine
PO Box 3099
BROADWAY NEDLANDS WA 6009
AUSTRALIA

American Girl has also closed to adult submissions. Their site says: "American Girl is not accepting unsolicited submissions of fiction or non-fiction by adults at this time for either our books or magazine. It is not known if or when we may again begin to accept them in the future."

Scareald is currently closed to all submissions.

Discontinued

Irish's Story Playhouse which has been closed to submissions for a while, now appears to be discontinued. The links to the site no longer work.

New Website Links

Links for the following magazines have been updated in the list since our last issue:

Underneath the Juniper Tree -- both links
