Addition to the Adult Writers' List

Urban Ministries, Inc. is the largest independent, African American-owned and -operated Christian media company. Their publications for children and youth include:

Preschool Playhouse (ages 2-5)
Primary Street (ages 6-8)
JuniorWay (ages 9-11)
J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) (ages 12-14)
Inteen (ages 15-17)

UMI contracts with freelance writers for many of their Christian education products. I was told by Rev. Cheryl Price, Ph.D., Editor-at-Large, [cprice(at)urbanministries(dot)com] that interested writers may email her with the age level you want to write for and she will send you the editor's contact information for that age level. You should then send that editor your resume and a brief cover letter describing your skills and why you're interested in writing for them. That editor will contact you with their writer's requirements and guidelines.

Addition to the Young Writers' List

Mishpacha TeenPages is an Orthodox Jewish publication for teens. The publication is included as part of the family weekly publication Mishpacha. Submission guidelines are here. This is a paying market.

Calls for Submissions

The four bug magazines (Babybug, Ladybug, Spider, Cicada) have calls for submissions listed here. Click on the given links for expanded information about each topic.

Contests

• The Writing Conference has a writing contest each year for elementary, junior high/middle, and high school students. The deadline is January 8th. Read details here.

One Teen Story Teen Writing Contest. Submissions received November 15th-January 14th. For ages 13-19.

Friend Jr.

Friend magazine, published by the Latter-Day Saints, now has a section in it called Friend Jr. for younger children. You can see a sample on their website. Submission guidelines for this younger publication are included in the guidelines for Friend.

This and That

Encounter is not currently accepting submissions.

Story Shack's website says they're still closed to submissions but to check back this month (November 2017).

Unsettling Wonder is publishing again. They had a call for submissions that ended October 1st, so if you're interested in subbing to them, keep an eye on their website for their next call.

Discontinued

HistoriCool is taking a break from the regular production of the magazine after December 2017. Past issues will still be available for purchase. Their site gave no indication if or when they might resume publication.

TIME for Kids Around the World has apparently been discontinued since no link seems available.

Kid Writers Magazine appears to be discontinued.

Young Writers site has been 'under construction' for more than five years with nothing new published, so it's being moved to the Closed List.
