Additions to the Adult Writers' List

• The Caterpillar is a print magazine of stories, poetry, and art for ages 7-11, published quarterly in Ireland. Their submission guidelines indicate they accept submissions from anywhere in the world. They currently have a poetry contest that ends March 31st. The winner receives a cash prize and magazine publication; the contest has an entry fee.

• The Crawl Space Journal is a literary, quarterly, online publication for teens and tweens. Writers of any age can submit. "Young Reader Flashlight" is the part of their blog which will showcase the writing of authors ages 13-17. Submission guidelines are here. This is a non-paying market.

• Forest for the Trees is a brand new, annual literary print journal that features teen writing and adult writing for teens. They accept submissions of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Submission guidelines give details. This is a non-paying market.

Additions to the Young Writers' List

• Fun For Kidz will have a new format, which includes a section where readers can submit their own stories for publication. The submission guidelines may need to be revised for young writers, so double check their website in the coming weeks.

• Jewish Girls Unite is a free online community which includes a forum, a blog, and a virtual classroom, in addition to the publication of pieces written by its members. The submission guidelines are here.

• Forest for the Trees -- see information above.

• The Crawl Space Journal -- see information above.

Theme Lists Updates

• Cadet Quest's 2016-2017 theme list was posted in January. Manuscripts need to be to their office by the end of April to be considered.

• DIG Into History now has themes listed through August 2017.

Call for Submissions

• Ladybug has a call for adventure stories, for ages 3-6, with a deadline of March 23rd.

• Story Shack is looking for illustrators. "Illustrating with us is a volunteer position, entered into to gain additional experience, contacts, exposure or simply for the fun of it." Check here for details.

Pockets Contest

Pockets will begin receiving entries for their 2016 contest on March 15, 2016. The rules and final deadline (August 15) will be the same as for their previous contests.

Fun For Kidz News

In January, the publisher of Fun For Kidz, Hopscotch, and Boys' Quest posted on their website that the three magazines would be combined into just one, Fun For Kidz. See announcement from Marilyn Edwards, Editor-in-Chief.

Lilybell News

Lilybell Magazine plans to move from a magazine format to a book series format called Lilybell Girl Guides. Instead of monthly releases, their “Girl Guides” will be available as stand-alones or in packs of 12. They will add several new guides each year.

Free Creating Puzzles for Children's Magazines Class

Cassie Brenn has developed an excellent class called "Create Puzzles, Get Published," which is offered at Skillshare. Skillshare is a subscription based service that offers a free basic membership. Once you register you can take Cassie's class and many other classes that might be helpful to writers and illustrators.
