Additions to the Adult Writers' List
• Wee Tales is a bi-annual, print and
e-copy magazine for ages 7-12, published by Golden Fleece Press. They accept submissions of short stories, poems, puzzles, and artwork.
Story word count should be between 600 and 2000. Their October issue is Halloween themed; the April issue focuses on spring.
This is a paying market. Submission guidelines are here.
• Refractions, a bi-annual journal for teens,
is also published by Golden Fleece Press. It features essays, short stories, poetry, and artwork. Essays and stories
should be between 1000 and 5000 words. This is a paying market. Check here
for submission guidelines.
I'm excited that Julia Ehrmantraut, the editor of Wee Tales and Refractions, has provided us additional
insights into these magazines through an interview for this issue of Writing for Children's Magazines. Check it out
here.
• Fandom Universe is a brand new
journal (print and e-copy) from Golden Fleece. Each issue focuses on a different fandom. They are currently accepting
essays, appropriate short fiction, and art submissions for The Fandom Universe: Indelible Ink, about life in the
Harry Potter fandom. This is a non-paying market. One contributor copy is provided. Submission guidelines are on the
same page as the magazine description.
Additions to the Young Writers' List
• Wee Tales says they are always
interested in submissions from kids. See above for more information.
• Refractions says teen writers are
encouraged to submit. See above for more information.
• Fandom Universe accepts submissions
from young writers. See above for more information.
Bumples is Back!
Bumples, a discontinued online interactive
children's ezine has been resurrected. Publisher Jennifer Sheehan decided to bring it back. The quarterly ezine is for
ages 4-10 and will include interaction, facts, and games with each story and poem. A sample issue may be seen on their
home page. This is a paying market. Submission
guidelines are here. They are interested in
submissions from children, as well as adults.
Theme Lists Updates
• Clubhouse Jr.
2016 themes can be found on Nancy Sanders' blog. Thanks, Nancy!
• Cadet Quest
should have their new themes posted some time this month. If you're part of our Yahoo group, I'll send you a notice
when I find out they're available.
• Themes for 2016 for Enchanted
Conversation: A Fairy Tale Magazine are halfway down the page.
• I didn't find this theme list for New Moon Girls
until recently. Some of the deadlines are past, but four issues are still open. Although they prefer content by 8- to
14-year old girls, they will consider adult-written content.
Submission Guidelines
Cricket put out a new call for submissions in November. Check
here for a couple of topics they're
especially wanting right now.
This and That
• Alfie Dog Fiction is closed to submissions from new authors until February 1st.
• Another Realm says they were hacked; clean-up has been time-consuming, so they are currently closed to flash
fiction, but are still accepting full length stories (up to 5000 words). I also updated the info in my listing for this
magazine to reflect that they do pay (a small amount) for full length stories.
• Enchanted Conversation: A Fairy Tale
Magazine has re-opened to submissions.
• Apprentice Writer, which publishes the work of
high schoolers, has its annual open submissions window January 20th-March 10th.
• The Blue Pencil Online, which publishes the work
of writers ages 12-18, is currently closed to submissions.
