Addition to the Adult Writers' List
Chess Life for Kids is a bi-monthly magazine for ages 12 and younger.
Chess instruction is the main focus of the publication, but historical features, quizzes, interviews,
cartoons, and humorous articles are also used.
Submission guidelines are
here.
Addition to the Young Writers' List
Girls' Life has been on the adult
list, but also publishes pieces by girls under age 18. Submission guidelines are found
at the bottom of this page. It
looks like this is probably a non-paying market.
Theme List Update
Odyssey themes
for January through August of 2015 have been posted.
Anansesem Status and its "Classroom" for Writers and Illustrators
The online Caribbean magazine, Anansesem,
is on hiatus for the rest of 2014 because of lack of high
quality submissions. They plan to publish again in 2015 and are still taking submissions. In the
meantime, you might be interested in some education opportunities they hope to provide to
writers and illustrators--
"For the rest of 2014, we will redirect our energies into efforts to educate writers and
illustrators about the nuts and bolts of creating stories (illustrated and not) for Caribbean
children. This educational outreach will be in the form of online chats, webinars, and super-mini
(i.e. 1-2 hour) online courses with qualified professionals in the field. Emphasis will be placed
on exploring and discovering the deep possibilities of this special practice and "joyful burden"
of writing for children in a way that is experiential and holistic. These tools (which will be
known collectively as the Anansesem Classroom) will be accessible via the Internet to anyone
around the world for a low fee."
Check their site
to find out details. Their page also gives
a list of the kind of problems they've had with submissions--helpful if you're interested
in submitting to them.
ChixLIT Update and an Opportunity for Young Writers
ChixLIT, an ezine for-girls-written-by-girls, has been
on hiatus for the past year, but is back. They are combining chixLITtle, their publication for younger
girls, with chixLIT and will have it as a special feature in each issue.
They are looking for a group of girls, ages 13-17, who are interested in volunteering to be a part of
the chixLIT Board and/or editorial team. For more information, check their
website.
Underneath the Juniper Tree
Underneath the Juniper Tree is on extended maternity leave. They emphasize that it's not the end of the ezine.
In the meantime, if you want to submit something, they're still running the website and will find
some place to share it.
