Addition to the Adult Writers' List

Unsettling Wonder is a literary journal for YA/A, which publishes both creative and academic work on fairy tales, folklore, and mythology. It is published twice a year in both print and digital formats. Submission guidelines for fiction, poetry, and nonfiction are found here. This is a paying market. If you want to submit for the current theme, "Why Would Anyone Enchant That?" you'll need to act promptly, because submissions close on May 1st. The theme for this year's second issue is "Changelings."

Addition to the Young Writers' List

Teen Graffiti has been on the adult list, but also publishes pieces by teens, so I'm adding it to the young writers' list. Contact information is here.

Pockets Annual Fiction Contest

Pockets' annual fiction contest is open for submissions until August 15th. The winner receives $500 and publication in Pockets magazine. Details are here.

Re-Open to Submissions

• For a while, Knowonder was only accepting submissions for chapter books. They are once again open to story submissions for their online Story-A-Day database. This is a non-paying market. Information is here.

Muse, a nonfiction magazine for kids and teens published by Carus, has also re-opened to submissions. They only accept queries. Information is here.

Story Shack Magazine's website says they are re-opening to submissions on May 3rd. Guidelines are here. This is a non-paying market.

Information about 3 UK Publications

If you've wondered whether the British magazines StoryBox, AdventureBox, and DiscoveryBox are a possible market for your writing, the current answer is no. I wrote them and asked if they use freelance work, and the editor responded, "I regret that we are not currently considering submissions."

Not Accepting Submissions

• GREYstone -- not at this time

Discontinued

• Abe's Peanut -- no longer being published, but back issues can still be purchased.

• 13Magazine -- I'm assuming this is discontinued. No issues since January 2013 and no response to my questions posted on their website's comment section in February.

• Read Fiction -- website links are broken and I can find no new ones.
