Additions to the Adult Writers' List

Short Kid Stories is an online publication that's just getting ready to launch. The publisher wants to showcase a range of classic and original short stories for children free of charge. Submission guidelines are here. The editor will consider reprints. This is a non-paying market, but those who submit do receive five free ebooks.

Timeless Tales is another brand new publication. This ezine exclusively publishes retellings of fairy tales and classic myths. Submission guidelines are here. They pay $15 a story.

Regular Baptist Press uses freelancers for several of their publications:
   God's Explorers, a Sunday school take-home paper for ages 6 and 7,
Truth Travelers, a Sunday school take-home paper for ages 8 and 9,
Faith Detectives, a Sunday school take-home paper for ages 10 and 11,
Living My Faith, an 8-page, weekly periodical for students ages 12—14 and
Real Faith in Life, a quarterly student devotional for senior high school students.
Submission guidelines are here. Freelancers writing for RBP need to agree with RBP's statement of faith. Payment starts at 4 cents per word for reprints and goes up, depending on the quality of the submission.

Additions to the Young Writers' List

Parallel Ink, for ages 12-18, is a new-to-me online publication which I'm excited to share with our young authors and illustrators. It was started in the summer of 2012 by three rising eighth graders who currently live in three different countries--Singapore, Korea, and Thailand. Submission guidelines are here. This is a non-paying market.

Cicada is a literary magazine for grades 10 and up. It's been on the Adult Writers' List, but I'm adding it to the young writers' list since Cicada accepts submissions from them also. Submission guidelines are here.

Faze, for ages 12-24, is a Canadian magazine that has been on the Adult Writers' List, but accepts young writers' submissions as well. Submission guidelines are here.

Highlights

Highlights updated their current needs list on 10-15-13. Most of the list remains the same, but they did make a few changes/additions.

If you're wanting to try to get a first non-fiction piece published with Highlights, Nancy Sanders (author of Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children's Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career) has been doing a helpful blog series about her own strategies to meet that challenge. She plans to compile the blog posts into a free ebook at some point, so I'll let you know when that's available.
