ADDITIONS TO THE LIST
Written World
Communications publishes several magazines. Three that are in print, or soon will be, are
aimed at children and teens: Starsongs, Untapped, and Patchwork. All three are to be
published in both print and ezine formats and are 24-28 pages. They pay $5-$25 per article or story.
PATCHWORK, launching this fall (2012), will be a bi-monthly Christian magazine for
elementary and middle school kids. It will focus on people from around the world, the jobs they do,
and the lives they lead. The magazine will include stories, poems, and informational articles such as
interviews. Patchwork will be a themed magazine. The first issue (already full) has a theme of
Coaching. Query your ideas to Editor Tracy Sockriter at
wwc.submissions@gmail.com. Include either Patchwork or
Tracy's name in the subject line of your email.
The following information was provided to me by Patti Shene who is Executive Editor of both
Starsongs and Untapped. Thank you, Patti!
STARSONGS is a magazine for kids by kids ages 9-19. Our tag line is "voices of the
future" and our goal is to inspire youth. Starsongs accepts original short stories, poetry,
essays, photography, and art work by young people in the above mentioned age group. Full manuscript
accepted from youth. Our next issue will focus on veterans, orphans, and loss. Each issue of
Starsongs contains a mentoring article about writing submitted by an adult writer. If
interested in writing for this feature, please query your idea first. Starsongs also features
an interview with an extraordinary young person, which is usually conducted via email by Starsongs
staff. We are always open to referrals of youth who have accomplished an extraordinary goal at a young
age or impacted their community in some positive manner. For guidelines and further information about
Starsongs, go to
http://www.kidspublished.blogspot.com/p/starsongs-guidelines.html or
contact Executive Editor Patti Shene at
starsongs.mag@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
UNTAPPED, also a quarterly magazine, will target Christian teens, with its debut issue
scheduled for release in late fall [2012]. Articles and stories focus on the struggles young people face in
their day to day lives and on the exciting ways they're living their Christian faith. The issues will
be themed. The theme for the first issue is honesty and integrity. Articles, devotionals, and stories
for this issue should focus on ways youth can display these characteristics, especially when doing so
has consequences. Writers should query with their idea, rather than sending a completed manuscript.
Articles and stories are a maximum of 1500 words. We are NOT looking for preachy, just honest. We've
seen too many submissions talking down to teens, so really consider this assignment prayerfully and
talk to teens the way YOU would have wanted to be talked to at that age.
Every issue is also needing articles and/or interviews with teenagers who are getting out there and
really living their faith in big ways. So if you know an individual or group of teens doing something
outstanding, whether it's working in missions or doing charity work, or maybe just volunteering in
their church in a unique and interesting way, let us know. Articles of this nature should be
750 - 1000 words, include pictures and a sidebar telling teens how they can get involved in a similar
way.

The "Owls" theme initially was incorrectly listed for October 2014. It has now been changed to November 2014.
